Upon the invitation of the Ukrainian Institute and the Crimean House, contemporary Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian artists performed together in a joint online concert "Svoi.Korinni". The concert was broadcasted on 9th August at 14:00 on the digital platforms of the Crimean House, the Ukrainian Institute, and the Public TV Channel UA:Crimea.
The performers combine ethnic, authorial, and jazz music of the peoples living in Ukraine. It is symbolic that the concert took place on 9th August, the UN International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. It is the annual day of solidarity with indigenous peoples, says First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar:
"For Crimean Tatars, Karaites and Krymchaks, the International Day of Indigenous Peoples is not just another holiday, but an occasion to remind the world of the rights and freedoms violated daily by the aggressor state in Crimea and to show their unique culture. Music is an art form that weaves the voices of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars into one canvas, demonstrating the unity and polyphony of stories, so the participation of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar performers is also a symbolic cultural reproduction of dialogue and interpenetration of cultures."
The concert features lineup of Usein Bakirov's Band, Ukrainian-Crimean Tatar jazz band, singer Aisel Balich, winner of international awards, an artist who lives in the Crimea and works with ethno jazz, folk, folk rock, rhythm and blues, as well as Ukrainian folk singer and songwriter KHAYAT, the finalist of the 9th season of "Holos Krainy", the finalist of the National selection for "Eurovision-2020".
"The combination of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar motifs opens new dimensions of contemporary music and gives us a deeper meaningful dialogue with art language. Moreover, all three indigenous peoples of Ukraine come from the Crimea, so the project was filmed on the peninsula and in Kyiv. It is impossible to artificially break ties when they are natural," explains the initiative Alim Aliev, Deputy Director General of the Ukrainian Institute.
